Employment opportunities and requirements

The City of Franklin Police Department is a progressive, proactive agency committed to hiring only the best, most qualified individuals to serve our citizens. Those who are hired must possess and practice the core values of the department, not only in their professional lives, but in their private lives as well. Those values are Honor, Courage, Commitment, and Integrity

The department accepts applications on a continuing basis from both certified police officers and non-certified persons desiring to enter this challenging career.

Applicants must submit a city application and a Franklin Police Department Background Investigation form. Upon receipt of these forms, a criminal history and driver’s transcript will be run. Applicants who have no criminal history and a zero or plus balance on their driver’s transcript will be invited to attend testing at the Franklin Police Department. This  includes a two-part physical agility test, a written police officer’s entrance examination (for out of state certified and all non-certified), and an oral interview by a panel. A full and in-depth background investigation will be conducted on favorable applicants who successfully complete all phases of the initial testing.  At the conclusion of a favorable background investigation, the applicant will submit to a psychological examination, a polygraph test, a drug screen, and a physical examination. The applicant who successfully completes all testing must agree to and sign a contract to service the City for a period of three years, commencing after the completion of the police academy and field training officer training.
